The Operant Dog · Training guide
Practise remaining on Place while you add small movements and distance.
Use the setup practised together
This is a progression from Place and reward-station work. Use the back-tie arrangement and handling demonstrated in your session. Always supervise your dog while using a back-tie.
Start small
- Begin with an easy Place repetition.
- Add a small movement or a short distance.
- Say GOOD while your dog remains on the bed.
- Collect a reward from your reward station and deliver it on the bed.
- Use FREE to end the repetition.
If your dog breaks position
Follow the reset and marker sequence practised with Will. Avoid repeating PLACE over and over. If your dog keeps breaking, reduce the distance, movement or duration and make the next repetition easier.
If you are unsure about the back-tie or reset, send a video or ask before progressing.
Between classes
Keep sessions short and rotate this work with easier exercises. Build confidence at home before adding distractions elsewhere.
