Practical dog training for Urunga dogs and handlers

Urunga is a beautiful place to live with dogs, but it also comes with plenty of real-world distractions. Walks near the boardwalk, café areas, vet visits, other dogs, wildlife, kids, bikes and busy public spaces can all be challenging if your dog is overexcited, worried or hard to settle.

Our training focuses on skills that actually matter outside the backyard, including loose lead walking, recall foundations, calm behaviour around distractions, settling, handler focus and recovery after excitement or stress.

If you are looking for a dog trainer near Urunga, the best starting point depends on whether your dog needs group life skills or more individual reactivity support.

Local places where training matters

For Urunga dog owners, everyday life might include visiting Urunga Vet, walking near the Urunga Boardwalk, or sitting near dog-friendly outdoor areas such as Anchors Wharf Cafe.

Peter Lister Photography has some wonderful photos of the boardwalk and it’s most recent developments.
.

Dogs are welcome on the boardwalk while on lead, however there are currently no poo bag dispensers or bins along the walk. Make sure to bring your own bags and carry waste back out with you.

At the time of writing, sections of the full boardwalk remain closed for renovations and you currently cannot walk all the way through to the off leash dog beach at Hungry Head. Always check current signage and local updates before planning longer walks.

Anchors Wharf Cafe notes that its outdoor casual dining area allows dogs on lead. For public spaces, always check current signage and Bellingen Shire Council dog rules before letting your dog off lead or entering sensitive areas.

Not just obedience

We are not chasing flashy obedience for the sake of it. The goal is a dog who can cope better, recover faster and make better choices in real life.

Training is reinforcement-based, practical and focused on helping both the dog and handler understand what to do next.
